How bankroll units work

A betting unit is a dollar amount you define. With a $2,000 bankroll and a chosen unit size of 1%, one unit is $20. A half-unit stake is $10; two units is $40.

Unit value = bankroll × unit percentage ÷ 100. Stake = unit value × number of units.

How much is one unit in sports betting?

It depends on the bankroll and percentage you enter. At 1%, a $500 bankroll gives a $5 unit, while a $2,000 bankroll gives a $20 unit. The percentage is your input, rather than a recommendation from this calculator.

Does a unit mean the stake or the amount I could win?

This tool uses units to mean the amount staked. At −110, a $20 stake has about $18.18 potential profit. Use the odds and payout calculator to calculate returns from a price.

Does my unit size change when my bankroll changes?

If you recalculate from a new bankroll at the same percentage, the dollar unit changes. Keeping a fixed dollar unit means leaving the original unit value unchanged. This tool recalculates from the bankroll you enter.

Is this a Kelly calculator?

This tool converts your chosen bankroll percentage into a stake. Kelly sizing also needs odds and an estimated win probability. Unit size alone does not establish whether a bet has positive expected value.
